Donating Platelets

Posted By: Meg K meta_seperate Date Posted: April 5th, 2010 meta_seperate Category:

Over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that BJC has been promoting the need for platelets.

Anyone a regular donor and have advice or tips?

You are right, there has been a effort to recruit both employees and people from outside BJC to donate platelets. The need for platelets has increased more than 23 percent. At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, who runs the Pheresis Center, we have one of the largest bone marrow transplant programs in the country, and patient volume has increased dramatically.

I've been donating platelets for the past few months and it is easy and for a good cause. Debra Pierce is the platelet donor recruiter at Barnes-Jewish and she can be reached at 314-747-4004 or dhp2041@bjc.org.

By donating platelets, you are helping to save a life very quickly.
The platelet products only have a shelf life of 5 days!

Thank you so much for "taking time to care".
