The Evil Semi Private Rooms
I was in MBMC a few days ago for surgery. The staff was excellent BUT semi private rooms are HORRIBLE! They should not be allowed. I have been there for other surgerys. ALWAYS managed to get a private room (I worked there for 16 years) This time I was on the extremely over crowed 4th floor and was told that the other bed in my room would be blocked because I am so against semi privates. But shortly, here it was, another person. Take a good long look at those rooms and you will see that they are just not big enough for 2 beds, visitors and staff. The staff has a hard time working around this tiny room. PLUS you have to share a bathroom. THIS WAS REALLY HORRIBLE> You have to go and the other person is in there. AND they give you these hat things to pee in so if the other persons “hat” is there, you have to wait for a staff person to remove it. I am aware that the new buiilding is supposed to contain all private rooms and I thought that the east wing when it was opened, it would contain all private but that is not so. I think it is a matter of greed however, some consideration should be given to the patiets and their families.
Therefore, in the future, I will only go to hospitals which can guarantee a private room.

Shirley,
We apologize that your recent experience at Missouri Baptist was not an excellent one.
Our goal is focused on always providing an excellent experience for our patients and their families. That’s why we are working hard to open 64 private rooms in the new West Pavilion in August of 2013. This will allow us to reduce the amount of semi-private rooms throughout the hospital.
Additionally, with the opening of a 23-hour surgical stay unit opening around this same date, we will be able to observe patients in that unit as opposed to taking them to patient floors. This will help reduce the number of patients on other floors as well.
We were delighted to hear that the staff handling your care during your recent stay was excellent.
Sincerely,
Susan Smith
