I don't go a year without one! I'd like to hear from those who don't get them? Why don't you get one? Side effects? Costs?

For years I did not get a flu shot. It was a holdover from my very vague memories of some problem with swine flu vaccine in 1976. I rationalized that I generally did not get the flu (just a bad cold with fever and chills about every other year) so did not need a flu shot. Duhhhh, guess what I was getting? A couple of years ago, BJC made getting protection from the flu mandatory for all employees (whether we have direct patient contact or not) and I relunctantly got my first shot. I am pleased to report that I have not had my bad cold with fever and chills since.

I have never gotten a flu shot, first, because I have personally known two people who contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome directly from having received a flu vaccine, and, secondly, I haven't had any flu symptoms that lasted longer than 12 hours since my tonsils were removed when I was 23, and that was 28 years ago!
