What would you most like to change in hospital emergency departments?

The long wait times are a consequence of the fact that the ER is the only place where certain people have access to care. Change the access to care problems: more urgent care clinics; more primary care providers (providers, not doctors; NP's and PA's can fill that gap); expanded hours of operation, etc. and suddenly the ER's are dealing with emergencies and not sore throats.

There should be triage in an ER, and I'm fine with that. But if you're coming in with chest pains, and you have to wait more than an hour, that defeats the purpose of an ER visit. It is well-known that action taken within the first hour of a heart attack makes the difference in the amount of heart-tissue death.
