Hughes

The intervention of Kathi Hughes, RN, same-day surgery, helped a family facing a traumatic situation.  For her efforts, Hughes received the monthly President’s Award from Lee Fetter, St. Louis Children’s Hospital president, in September.

After a patient’s family learned of a children’s devastating diagnosis, Hughes shared her own experience with the same disease.  In addition, she coordinated follow-up care for the family, which had no primary care physician yet because they were new to the area.

Kathi listened to the family and helped them cope with their shock and pain.  Staff who witnessed the interaction spoke about how amazing Kathi was in working with the family.
