PATIENT CARE TECH/ UNIT SECRETARY

I was navigating thru this site and was somewhat shocked when I clicked on th catagory "caregiver" and got this reply "There are no blogs to display." In "making medicine better", discussing health care, debating reform, or just living a "day in the life." I believe caregiving is at the foundation of what we do. We provide "Exceptional Care". I've worked as a patient advocate. I spent a lot of hours in the emergency department. The challenges to provide quality care were the only constant. I often heard from family members when we missed the mark. There was a phrase I heard more than once than I believe can be beneficial to all doctors, health care providers, insurers, politicians, and even President Obama. It was said to me by people of all walks of life, all socio-economic status, and yes all races. It is simply "Is this how you would like your mother to be treated." This keeps me focused on task. It reminds me of why I do what I do. It enables me to rededicate myself daily to give A1 service. Research has shown that when a patient feels genuine concern for their care and well being, recovery time is reduced(costs are cut), we all win, and medicine is made better. I love where I work. I think we are the best. But, even the best can get better.

Sam- you make a good point. You should encourage others like yourself to share their stories on being caregivers. Seems to me that this site could be used to hear both sides of the story- from the patients and the caregivers.
