Yes, I finally discussed the issue with my primary and then my rad doctors. After that my treatments did run smoother. It's just a shame that this occurred, when we all know that COMMUNICATION is so important and what happens to the patient who can't be their own advocate. But, thanks for answering my concerns.

Rebekah - I understand there is a different set of rules for surgery-related operations. When I talk about this issue, my concerns are related to all services, including staff who may or may not have direct contact with patients. I'll stand by my statement that we could "make medicine better" by changing the ways this is done. I looked at http://www.dhss....

Just to clarify, when I was referring to "the literature" I did mean the information specifically relevant to attire in semirestricted and restricted areas in the surgical areas. However, The AORN Perioperative Recommended Standards and Practices (2010) cites articles from Alexander's Care of the Patient in Surgery, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemi...

I'm not quite sure that no scientific evidence exists regarding the scrubs outside of work issue. I also tend to agree that "Experts say the absence of evidence doesn’t mean there is no risk — it just means there is no good research. A handful of reports do suggest that the clothing of health workers can be a reservoir for risky germs." as quoted from: ...

Uniforms worn by health care workers definitely have changed since the days of the traditional white uniform. Today's colorful scrubs reflect personal styles and can be used to identify various departments by color. Historically it has only been in sterile areas such as the operating room where workers were provided scrubs and actually changed into the scrubs at work. ...

From Poll
This poll is a little confusing because someone could have an employer plan that they also pay for out of their paychecks. Other people could have an employer plan that employees pay $0 for (such as at Boeing). Although I have BJC insurance, I selected "Self-purchased" because I pay quite a bit per month for that insurance. To me, employer provided insurance w...

Today, July 1, 2010 the hard work of Mayor Linda Goldstein and elected leadership of the City of Clayton bore fruit and I look forward to visiting all of the smoke-free restaurants in Clayton.

I understand; I have no idea what to do. This woman is being murdered due to self-righteous medical ignorance, a family is just being destroyed, and no one with any authority cares enough to act. And the law says that those who've changed her co-pay to put her medication out of her reach is not accountable for her death. She was very healthy and active; now she's d...

Ian, what a powerful, touching story. I just have no idea what to say.

No matter what kind of help you have available for low-income, indigent, disabled or whomever, always - ALWAYS - someone falls through the cracks, slides between the bars, just plain doesn't fit any category - and does without. I've a friend I met as a Chronic Pain treatment advocate who is now dying. He (self-administered thru the City) insurance's medical manager believes ...

I agree, Rita and Stacey. I think that an informed patient is ultimately going to be a more satisfied patient because he or she will feel more empowered in making decisions about their healthcare. I'm another WebMD fan because I always want to see if whatever symptoms I am having are serious enough to even merit a trip to the doctor. Just from some recent experienc...

Oh my gosh, Rita, that sounds HORRIBLE. I'm so glad you didn't have any permanent damage from those incidents! Pain is so scary and it's even scarier when the people who should be caring for you do not give your concerns the proper attention. Good for you telling the doctor about what was going on! Even though you had to go through a lot of pain and trouble, i...

As being a health care provider i feel that medicine can be made by having better equipment so we can provide the proper health care for the patients and by doing that our turn over ratio will not be sohigh with patients coming back for the same problems

I have not been hospitalized for quite a while now; however, I have had several extremely bad experiences (Not at any BJC facility) which makes me very leery of being hospitalized anywhere. One of the times involved an IV that had been placed in my arm. This IV stung as the fluids went into my body (I had previously had several times when I required a potassium drip, and...

I only use sites such as WebMD or actual Institutes of Research when I am looking for medical information; however, when I have tried to pass this information along to my doctor, I'm told to stay off the Internet because the information found there is not factual or based on any TRUE research. It is my hope and prayer that one of these days, doctors will not feel so ...

I responded, "Yes" to this question because I am very much in favor of completely rehauling the health insurance business, am very much in favor of universal health care, and even though I am on a very low "fixed income" where my monthly insurance cost is 1/4 of my total monthly pay (and my mortgage is 1/2 of my total monthly pay), I would be more than wi...

I have never gotten a flu shot, first, because I have personally known two people who contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome directly from having received a flu vaccine, and, secondly, I haven't had any flu symptoms that lasted longer than 12 hours since my tonsils were removed when I was 23, and that was 28 years ago!

What PASSED was completely stripped down, humiliating and of practically no help to those who truly need such a service. It, in no way, represented what Obama was trying to implement for each and every person in the United States who have a RIGHT to be cared for medically and to live a life as free of illness as possible!
