I would like to advocate a health care system which: 1)Keeps the treating physician accountable for the appropriateness, effectiveness, and cost of care. 2)Provides a primary care model such that one physician is responsible for the coordination of all specialist care, diagnostic studies, and address drug interaction and compliance. 3)Addresses the issue of medication,...

I am hopeful that you have addressed the following areas: 1)Given multiple studies showing medication compliance rates of 50% have you included a methodology for tracking compliance? This area results in massive waste of costs for unused medications as well as diminished quality of care. 2)I hope that you have required a justification for polypharmacy often utilized in p...

I'm curious to hear from others who have used Google Health as well. To me the idea of having my personal health records online is a little freaky. At least the initial thought. But I guess it's no riskier than banking or paying bills online. The convenience of a universal system would be outstanding. And very green!

In today's world filled with technology, I am being reminded daily of the different tools available to me to make it easier to keep up with my own health. For example, Google Health is available in which you can fill out your own information and let others securely access it. I still haven't tried it out, but I'm curious to hear from others that use it how it's helped them o...

I agree with Craig...I just recently went for a routine follow up with my OB/GYN in which I waited 1 hour in the waiting room and an additional 30 min. in the room. I don't have time for that...and I'm sure others don't either. I do, however, feel that as a patient it is important to make your appointments and show up at the time they are scheduled. The minute...

It appears that the balance of power between the Democrats and the Republicans has changed with the election of Scott Brown. This means that Healthcare will be back to "square one" on the Grand Stage of Politics. To me this would be the ideal time for the Hospitals of America to band together with a United Front and a United Proposal. Let the tail wag the dog, rather than th...

Great article worth re-posting here on MMB.org from @BarnesJewish on Twitter: Could staring into space and drowsiness be signs of Alzheimer's? Maybe, according to our Dr. James Galvin. http://tinyurl.com/y8qsjtf

Debbie, I agree. The IV therapy nurses do a great job. Sorry if I implied otherwise. I do think it's worth the wait for the patients to get that team if they are a difficult stick.

What to me would be worthwhile would be to have investigative research to see if our own bacteria makes us sick. I would like to see one group use "colon cleansers" and another group not use colon cleansers over a five year period and see which group is "flu" resistant. Thanks for your comment.

Dr. Ravi Uppaluri, surgial nurse Linda Zilch, along with the entire surgical team at Barnes-Jewish Hospital's Center for Advanced medicine and Karen Wheat from his office are all excellent examples of BJC 'making medicine better.' Dr. Uppaluri, from the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, and his team performed surg...

James, you are on the right track concerning bacteria, which can be the underlying cause of alot of deceases. Everyone thinks differently about Flu shots, I don't get the shot. I have only had the flu once in my life (knock on wood), but I have a very strong emmune system which I am sure helps.

Rebekah, I agree, it may be delayed but the IV Therapy team is great. They kept my Mothers arms from extra bruising that would have come from fishing. The regular Nurses normally do a great job (on me, my husband, my Dad) but My Mother had very tricky veins. Everytime she was admitted to the hospital whether thru ER or addmittance, we always ask for the IV Team to put th...

Very Happy for all the women still to come who will need a hysterectomy. I went thru it yrs. ago before laparoscopic was ever in the mix. I love the safety of it and the down time afterwards is so much less. Keep up the good work. Debbie

All are worded very well and I agree, especially the comment 'treat each other with dignity and respect today, one day the world will be a better place' SO True.

Craig, you do have an option. Find a different Doctor ~ not all Doctors office make you wait 4 hours (maybe just 1/2 hour, which is better). Years ago I use to go with my Mother to her Doctors appointments and we would have to wait 4 hours, it was awful. I told myself as a kid then that I would not do that when I got older. Guess what, I have never waited in a Doctors office...

A patient was admitted to Parkland Health Center. There were no family or friends to help during either of this patient's admissions. The patient needed help as the patient's dog was home alone and the temperatures outside were below freezing and in the single digits to below zero at night. Willow Beal, RN, Parkland Health Center ICU, offered to help the patient during ea...

Still amazed that in today's world I'm expected to wait PATIENTLY in my doctor's office for hours past my APPOINTMENT time without any kind of update or options. It really stinks. If I wanted to be treated like cattle I'd go to a vet. Where by the way I'd probably be treated better.
