I recently returned from a customer advisory board of a predictive analytic software company. It seems to me that many other for-profit industries are already using predictive software to increase ROI and reduce costs within their organization. It also seems to me that health care is still working at simple reporting of the descriptives of what is happening, and not anywhe...

I would also like to add. I grew up watching my Mom work her tail off to support me........she had a heart condition. Rather then go to the Doctor, because she did not have insurance......she sufffered and basically died because of it !!!!!

First I think we should stop Doctors and Insurance companies from charging soooo much. They are getting very rich,....while we suffer!!! I thought they did what they did because they care about people. It is all about the money !!!! I thought I found a great place to go. I suffer from chronic pain. I found a clinic in Washington,Mo. that goes by your pay....She looked up my ...

I was one of those people who had to use the ER as a Doctors office. I hated to do it, but I had no choice. I had an absecse tooth, my face swelled up like a grapefruit.I was hurting so bad I was up all night. I hated to got to the ER, because I felt I was taking away from more important things. That brings me to another story. I suffer from chronic pain, I was almost excite...

True, however, if you have to see a specialist who can't get you in, the physician referral line may be able to put you in touch with a different physician in the same specialty; or your doctor may be able to recommend a different specialist. If I told my GP, "you told me to see X, but he doesn't have any open appointments for two months," my GP wo...

When you have a particular problem that your g.p. cannot handle, you must see the "specialist." He/she may already have test results, etc. I'm sure the patient's insurance company would not want these tests repeated again. It would be a lot of "red tape" to start all over again with a new doctor.

If the doctor you usually see can't get you in, I recommend calling the physician referral line at BJC (314.362.WELL) They're exceptionally good at getting appointments as soon as possible. One of the reasons I go to my general practicioner is that I have never had to wait to get in to see him. I call, tell his nurse what the problem is, and she has always b...

It isn't the lack of control, it is the lack of excellent care. When you have patient ratio's too high due to budget how do you expect your nurses to deliver excellent care. Also people pick up on social strains within a department. When you have a department that the staff is dysfunctional at best, patient's pick up on that too. You want to improve scores, th...

When a patient is in pain or really feeling poorly, why must we wait several days or even weeks to see the doctor? I realize they are busy and booked but what alternative does a sick patient have other than going to the Emergency Room and waiting for many hours and then being criticized for using the Emergency Room as a doctor's office? There must be a better way to be see...

I'm not sure that I agree it's unethical, but I do think it's a good idea. Many people leave a medical visit with little understanding of their examination, condition, or prescriptions. I think a summary in layman's terms would encourage many patients to take a more active role in their own health care simply because they would have a better understanding.

Idea: After every visit, EVERY patient gets a Summary Report of what the Doctor just did for them, recommendations, next appointment, etc. It is unfair and in my opinion unethical to not provide your patients with a detailed summary of what services were rendered on my body. It should not have to be requested, it should be given. -When I get my oil changed at the mechani...

In the most recent poll on www.makemedicinebetter.org , visitors are asked how satisfied they are with their hospital. Unfortunately, the choice with the highest number of 'votes' is "Very Dissatisfied." Trying to be optimistic, I added the two "Very Satisfieds" and "Somewhat Satisfieds" together, but still did not beat the "Ve...

Ok, I don't understand why the just the health care of black folks is important? Why isn't it the health care of all people important? There are poor white people and if I'm not mistaken hispanic people tend to be more socio-economicaly down trodden than the, "black folk". Maybe BJC needs to be more worried about the health care of the public they se...

Why are a disproportionate number of African Americans poor? I believe that it is not race that affects health but socioeconomic status (I am excluding obvious race-favorable diseases such as sickle cell anemia for the purpose of this post.) Traditionally black people has provided so much by way of culture, science, medicine, government throughout history but being poor has ...

On a personal level I would not want any association with the health care industry. I do acknowledge that unfortunate accidents and life-threatening illnesses do exist and for that I would be more than happy to maintain an adequately funded HSA for my own peace of mind. If I were to ever decide that our health care system would benefit me I would only seek out health insuran...
